Wellness Support for Individuals on the Autism Spectrum
At Sage Wellness, we offer health coaching, nutrition education, and functional lab review to support the overall wellness of individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. We do not diagnose autism spectrum disorder or provide medical, behavioral, or neurological treatment. We work alongside — not in place of — medical providers, therapists, and specialists already involved in a person’s care.
Many families and individuals on the autism spectrum are interested in exploring how diet, gut health, nutrition, and toxic burden may relate to overall wellbeing. Research in this area is growing, and a functional wellness lens can offer useful context for families looking to support health from the inside out.
We take a whole-person, individualized approach, recognizing that no two people have the same biology, history, or needs. Our focus is on education, lifestyle support, and helping families make informed decisions about nutrition and wellness.
Areas We May Explore Together
Through health coaching and functional lab review, we may look at factors that research has linked to overall wellbeing in individuals on the spectrum, including:
- Nutritional status: Common nutrient gaps such as vitamin D, B12, magnesium, zinc, and omega-3 fatty acids, which can affect energy, mood, and cognitive function
- Gut health: Digestive symptoms are frequently reported alongside autism spectrum presentations; we can review gut-related labs and support dietary approaches that promote gut health
- Food sensitivities: Some individuals experience improvements in behavior, focus, or digestion when certain foods are identified and removed
- Toxic burden: We may review testing for heavy metals, mold-related mycotoxins, or environmental chemical exposures and discuss lifestyle strategies to reduce exposure and support the body’s natural detox pathways
- Mitochondrial and metabolic health: Education on nutritional approaches that support cellular energy production
Our Approach to Lab Review
We may recommend functional lab panels to help build a clearer picture of an individual’s nutritional and metabolic status. These are reviewed in a wellness coaching context to guide dietary and lifestyle recommendations, not for medical diagnosis.
Lifestyle & Nutrition Coaching
Based on individual history and lab findings, we provide education and coaching on:
- Dietary approaches commonly explored in the autism wellness community, such as gluten-free, casein-free, or low-inflammatory eating patterns
- Nutrient-dense whole food eating and practical meal planning support
- Supplement education based on identified nutritional gaps
- Strategies to reduce exposure to environmental toxins in the home and daily routine
- Gut health support through diet, fiber, and fermented foods
- General lifestyle factors such as sleep, movement, and stress that affect overall health
A Partnership with Families
We understand that families navigating autism spectrum care are often already working with multiple providers and carrying a significant load. Our role is to be a supportive, informed partner in the wellness piece of that picture — offering education, answering questions, reviewing labs, and helping families feel more confident about the nutritional and lifestyle choices they’re making.
We work collaboratively and always encourage continued engagement with medical providers, behavioral therapists, educational specialists, and any other members of the care team already supporting your family.
If you are a parent or caregiver looking for nutritional and wellness guidance, or an adult on the spectrum interested in exploring how lifestyle factors may be affecting your health, we welcome the opportunity to connect.
